Vendhu Thaanidhathu Kaadhu is a gangster drama with TR Silambarasan in the main lead role, written by Jeyamohan and directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. Music is scored by none other than AR Rahman.

Story: Muthuveeran is a youngster from a village who comes to Mumbai for his work life. What happens to him, and what people and situations does he face forms the rest of the Story.

Analysis: The story is very simple and much familiar. The narration takes a straightforward route from the beginning. Hardships the main character goes through are neatly established which makes us route toward him. Till the midpoint, the proceedings go very well without much noise. And as expected it takes a serious turn from a simple common man's journey with the path of the hero changing with an intense action sequence at the interval.

After that though slowly the narration focuses on the rise of a common man to a gangster. Interestingly, the director showcases the journey in a way that both the heroics and agony of Mutthu are shown at the same time. It goes through the emotional turbulence of the main character as he retrospects his actions and what his life is up to and after an impressive pre-climax, the movie ends on a hurried note.

The love track which is GVM's forte has his trademark all over it and works as a sigh of relief amid this gangster drama.

Performances: Simbu was too good as Muthu. He just transformed into the role so effortlessly. This performance definitely will be one of his best outings. Siddhi Idhnani was good. Radhika Sarathkumar got a small role and she was okay. Jaffar from Vikram is introduced with a good buildup but afterward, he goes unnoticed.

Technical: The camera and dialogues are well suited to the mood of the movie. Action sequences are excellently choreographed aided by the terrific background score by AR Rahaman. ARR does an excellent job by providing a very good soundtrack for the movie. Marakkuma Nenjam stands as the best song.

Highlights:

Simbu's Performance
Impactful narration
Music
Action Sequences

Drawbacks:

Redundant plot - actually this is not one point but can be said as the combination of many points because narration never lets us bored nor does it excites us too often because of the predictability factor. The blunt climax hit us that the second part for which the lead could have been better.

Overall, Gautam Vasudev Menon delivers a neatly made gangster drama in his style with the help of Silambarasan's performance and AR Rahaman's delightful music. A one-time watch.
